Dallas Online Backup: Architel’s Online Backup Service

Dallas Online Backup: Architel’s Online Backup Service

Alexander Muse , May 31, 2006

For the past two three years we have offered our clients online backup at no additional monthly cost. Most small businesses are ideal candidates for the service, but there are some general guidelines you need to think about:

  • Bandwidth: you should have a business class internet connection with a speed greater than 1.5 mbps to take full advantage of the service (this means a T1/DS1).
  • Total Data Size: you should have less than 100GB of data to be backed up (we can accomodate more, but 100Gb or less is ideal unless you have 3mbps or greater bandwidth capacity).
  • Exchange Database Size: your Exchange database can be no bigger than 20GB (we can still provide online backup for all your other data, but Exchange will need to be backed up locally unless you get a faster connection – 3 mbps or better).
  • Database Size: for that matter, any database can be no bigger than 20GB.

Our online backup service is a great value for most companies. Click here for more information. Compare our cost to that of HP’s online backup service here.

Dallas AnitVirus Service: Even with AntiVirus – You are at risk!

Dallas AnitVirus Service: Even with AntiVirus – You are at risk!

Alexander Muse , May 26, 2006

Each night Architel technicians check to see if the Symantec virus profiles were updated to ensure our client’s systems are protected. According to a report by eWeek, Symantec’s antivirus can actually put users at risk of a worm attack. If supporting complex servers wasn’t hard enough, now the very software designed to protect them is putting them at risk. The exploit gives you “complete access to the machine… allowing anyone to remove, edit or destroy files at will.” Lots of authorities are posting warnings including eEye:

Symantec’s anti-virus software is deployed on more than 200 million systems in both the enterprise and consumer markets, and the threat of a network worm attack is very real. However, eEye’s Puterbaugh said there are no publicly shared proof-of-concept exploits or other information to suggest an attack is imminent.

Microsoft Vista Delayed?

Microsoft Vista Delayed?

Alexander Muse , May 3, 2006

Microsoft explained in March their distribution of Vista would be delayed until early 2007. Now Gartner Group is reporting that we won’t see Vista until second quarter of next year. Microsoft refutes the report and stated:

“We respectfully disagree with Gartner’s views around timing of the final delivery of Windows Vista,” a Microsoft spokesman told CNET News. “We remain on track to deliver Windows Vista Beta 2 in the second quarter and to deliver the final product to volume-license customers in November 2006 and to other businesses and consumers in January 2007.”
